The website www.wikipedia.org is an online encyclopedia so answering the questions who, what, where, when, and why will be a little more difficult and will most likely be different than most other websites. Since the site is an encyclopedia the who is anyone who is looking for information. This probably means a lot of students and teachers probably use this site. This site offers information that is unbiased so it isn’t directed towards any particular culture, gender, and age group. Also since it offers a broad range of information people can use it to find information for their job or just for fun. There is no reason that anyone should not find this site useful because it has information that applies to anyone.

The what is a free encyclopedia that is online. It provides information that range from the biology to the ingedients of pepsi. It also has a section called trivia for certain articles that provide you with unimportant information that is just fun to read, or as most people call them fun facts, such as if you search a movie the trivia section may give you information about other actors who were supposed to be in the movie or why the director added a scene. It also is updated constantly so all the information you get is very up to date. Also people can add information to the site so you get information from everywhere. It also uses information that they get from other reliable sources such as other websites, newspapers, magazines, and other sources. It also has information on current news. The where is anywhere, It has information from and about everywhere in the world. It provides the option to change languages so anyone can use it. It is also accessible anywhere that has the internet since it is free. Since people can add information you are getting information from everywhere not just one place.

The when is anytime you need information. It is useful when you need to write a report for school or just need to get a better understanding of something. Also it is useful when you are just bored and curious. You can find information on just about anything you can think of so when you are bored you can just spend time finding information on things you always wanted to know.

The why is very simple. It is simply because the internet is the quickest and easiest way to gather information and an encyclopedia is a book that puts a lot of information in one place so it only makes sense to put them together. It is so much more practical to use than looking through a large set of books to complete a report. It is also much easier than a normal encyclopedia to use because you can search for exactly what you want which makes it even more obvious why someone made it. Another reason is that it will reach more people because of the fact that it is free and normal encyclopedias are expensive so now everyone who has a computer has an encyclopedia at their home.

I visit many websites often and there are several to write about. One of my favorite websites is www.wikipedia.org. This website as its name suggests is an online encyclopedia that not only has information that traditional encyclopedias have but it also allows users to add information to the encyclopedia so it is very up to date and provides all types of information. I use it very often to find out information on anything I think of.

The website is very easy to use. The focal point of the website is the search box in the middle of the first page you see when you enter. When you first enter the website you can choose the language you want, it is automatically in English to begin with, and then there is a box to type in whatever you want to search. If you choose a language such as English it will take you to a main page where it shows features such as a featured article, news, on this day etc. If you choose to just enter something in the search bar it will search the database for your entry. When you hit enter it will either take you directly to the information if you type in something simple like dog. If you type in something more complicated like someone’s name such as Steve Miller it will take you to a page where it will give you choices. There is Steve Miller the musician, Steve Miller the writer, Steve Miller the software developer etc.

The genre of the website would be considered an encyclopedia simply because on the website it says Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It is pretty much just like a book encyclopedia except that it can hold almost unlimited information and the information can be changed quickly. Some of the conventions of the website are the blue text for hyperlinks and the standard text box and search button for searching the entire website. It also always has the name and logo of the site on the top left of the screen that will take you back to the home page when clicked on. Some of the ways it changes the conventions is by not allowing anyone to post anything they want on the site. It has to be good information from a reliable source. For information that could be controversial there is a warning at the top of the article that the controversial information is in.

Blogging and internet writing is in some ways the same as paper based writing but in many ways it is different. The ways they are the same is that in both ways you can put your ideas down on something and people can read them. The ways they are different are that everyone can see your writing on the internet and as soon as you are done writing you can post it. Also like on Wikipedia people can go through your writing much quicker by searching through it with a search tool.
